Over a century ago, on February 22, 1855, Penn State was founded as an institution of higher education. Now every year on February 22, the Lion Ambassadors lead the university in celebrating Penn State’s birthday at an event called Founder’s Day. From its beginning as the Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania to growing to its modern form as the Pennsylvania State University, Penn State has a lot to celebrate!
Founder’s Day includes a celebration in the HUB full of music, entertainment, and free food. Activities are also planned that incorporate stories of Penn State’s humble beginnings. Recently, Founder’s Day has partnered with the Student Programming Association (SPA) to bring a free concert to students at University Park during the week of Penn State’s birthday. With bands like Fun. and Imagine Dragons performing in the past, SPA has helped make Founder’s Day an even more exciting event!
This year's Founder's Day will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
